Love his bag. have had it for many years after ordering it from the Grommet website. ordering it from the Grommet website. I didn't know at the time how customizable it is. Love all the options from pockets, to colors.
I was clearing out my e-mail inbox and noticed that I've had my Large Zero for three years now, so I thought I'd give an updated review. The bag is great. I actually noticed that I only gave the bag a 4/5 on quality in my initial review, and I think that was a mistake. I own three messenger bags (the Zero, a Timbuk2, and a Chrome in different sizes) and the Zero is by far my favorite. I got the Herringbone Tweed exterior and cordura interior with a raft of add-ons (waterproof liner, shoulder pad, cross-strap, clips, and the deluxe drop pocket), and everything has held up beautifully after three years of near-daily use. The only signs of wear are that the binding is a little dingy (I'd definitely go with a darker color if I were ordering a new one) and that the tweed fabric is starting to fray slightly at one of the seams (not so badly that it needs to be repaired or is noticeable, but enough that I know it's there). Anyway, I still love the bag and I'm glad I purchased it. Side note, I would say that the clips are a must for the large bag simply because of how wide the flap is. If you guys ever update the design, I would suggest putting two velcro points on the large. Oh and one last thing, I've noticed the price has gone up on the customized model, but it is still definitely a great buy at that price.
Best bag I've ever owned!
I love this bag! It's lightweight, spacious and beautiful. I just got it so I can't speak to sturdy, but it's holding up well thus far. The only con is that the strap could be longer to account for taller bodies. I don't necessarily want the bag up on my back if I need to get in and out of it often (like for travel). Otherwise, it's great!
Great bag, looks good, does what it is supposed to do.
I ordered the large size to accommodate by 15" laptop. I don't plan to carry additional items so the overall volume of the bag is much more than I need. I would have preferred a medium size bag but the bottom measurement won't accommodate my laptop.
I've had my large Zero for a little over a month now, and I really like it. I use it primarily for carrying my lunch and a book to work, so I generally don't make use of the all the space, but it's great to have in case I need to pick up any groceries or other items on my way home. I especially like the little flaps on the side (you know, the ones where the strap attaches), they really help the bag conform to the contours of your back almost as if (and this will sound super corny) the bag is giving you a hug. The materials (I went with the tweed exterior and cordura interior) feel extremely durable and the sewing and construction is free from defects. The only downside is also kind of a positive, because the bag doesn't have any padding it's a little shapeless when it's empty. So that means if you're carrying something large and rigid, it can kind of dig in uncomfortably. However, if you're carrying several smaller items, it's usually not too hard to find the best way to pack them so that the bag rests comfortably on your back. The price was also a little high, but partly because I sprang for extras like the waterproof lining and the clips. Anyway, this is a great all around bag and I am extremely happy with my purchase.
It's great, but one of my qualms is that I wish they made an extra large bag (I bike around the city with my medical tools, white coat, laptop, and gym gear) to accommodate those who need the extra space. Furthermore, the cross strap, even with the strap cushioning thing, will start riding up on my chest and choke me while biking. I haven't figured out a fix to this.
