I have owned my custom made SMALL ZERO MESSENGER for several years now. I LOVE IT. I use this bag everywhere from hiking to attending dinner parties. I always take this bag with me travelling in the USA and around the world. Very durable. IMHO, it still looks "brand new". My husband actually made me buy a fancy leather Coach bag, because I keep using this bag. I still find myself reaching for this bag when I go out.
I am well pleased with my small zero messenger bag. I've even received several compliments.
Absolutely love this bag! The outside fabric is so soft and stays clean, inside is super vibrant, and even the small has tons of room for everything I need, including my laptop! I can't wait to start taking this on longer trips, but even day trips have improved with this! Absolutely love it.
So far, this is my all-time favorite bag. I customized a small zero messenger bag. I love it so much that I want to buy a medium. The small one is perfect for most days as an "everyday carry". It is not as large inside as I expected, though, so I will buy a medium for days that I want to take a full sketching kit with me (I'm an artist). But even the small bag will easily hold a small, light sketching kit. For everyday carry, I carry my wallet, my sunglasses (which unfortunately has a huge bulky case!) and some personal items (like lipstick, hand sanitizer, etc.) in a bag-in-bag clear and nylon pouch from Tom Bihn. I can also fit in other things as I need them like my full sized Midori Traveler's Notebook, a pen and pencil case, and a small water bottle. But I do not like carrying heavy or bulky bags, so I try not to squeeze many things in.
The best thing about the Zero messenger bag is that it is light. The lightest bag I have ever had. I also like that it does not have a slippery lining like so many women's bags, and even some messenger style bags from the other online competitors. I really don't like to have to chase my stuff around a slippery bag. I love that you can customize just the right exterior and interior fabrics and colors. I was able to pick a bag just in the colors I love and the look I love. When I go to a department store or boutique I am usually limited to bags in colors that I really don't care for -- whatever the Fashion Moguls have dictated to the rich, and thus populace, at the current moment. I like that at Rickshaw I can go wild and pick a bright fanciful color or, alternatively, a subdued and stately tweed, depending on my mood and purpose. I can definitively see myself buying a few Rickshaw bags for various seasons and purposes.
I also love the fact that the bag is not tall but shallow. It is so hard to find things in a deep bag. I like the simplicity of the design, the Rickshaw company philosophy regarding local and sustainable, and the excellent workmanship. After using it about a month this bag is clearly made to last! It still looks completely new, even though I do take it out in the city or country for sketching.
If I could pick one thing I wish the bag had, and that is a holder for a water bottle. It would be nice to buy a modular water bottle holder along the lines of the modular velcro pocket attachment that is sold separately. Then we could put the water bottle where we liked and not have to worry about it falling over if the bag gets jostled around.
Currently, I do not bicycle. But if I were to get a bike again and ride -- and I am hoping for a recumbent -- I would definitely get one or two of these bags in retina searing colors and put the bag through its paces! So I cannot speak to this messenger bag as a true messenger bag. But for an everyday carry or an artist's materials bag for an urban or landscape artist, I just love it.
Although it has two front pockets beneath the flap, it would have been even better to have a little zipper pocket inside to make sure your keys or phone don't fall out...I like extra protection! Other than that, it's a great bag.
I have a lot of bags . The small zero messenger is fantastic . I originally bought it to carry my art things. I enjoy urban sketching on week ends. The small zero will carry my 24 cm by 16 cm sketchbook. I could also take a 28 cm by 22 cm sketchbook. The bag will also hold a small paint pallet and a couple of pen / pencil cases, small water container . I also place my wallet , phone, keys and sometimes my iPad in bag allowing me to just carry one bag. I ordered purple with green trim with orange lining. I have received many compliments on my great bag. It is such a well made secure, lightweight bag that I actually empty my art things and carry this bag constantly whether to work or catch up with friends. I would also travel with this bag as the clips hold everything in place and is a very secure bag.
I LOVE this bag!
It looks great, is good to use, and I can see different coloured ones in my future!
It is very well made. Considering it was a customized item, it didn't take very long to get to the UK from date of order.
Originally purchased as a "possibles bag" for muzzleloader hunting, the bag truly shines as secure transport, to Church, for my Oxford Study Bible. This edition, w/Apocrypha, is NOT a small book. I can readily add keys, pens and pencils, cell phone and credit cards, with room for anything else which would occupy pocket space. Then, when we arrive for services, I can fetch my walking staff, shoulder the bag, herd my grandchildren and proceed from parking into the building, secure in the knowledge that everything I might need is protected, organized and readily available. An added bonus is that I've now thoroughly tested the bag and expect an easy transition to the field, come Fall. (Sorry California, MUCH rain has fallen in AR this Spring.) I'll be using my "review discount" to buy another for a Very Good Friend!
