I've used two of these and they are great. The folios protect my moleskine against spills (lost one moleskine due to a water bottle overseas a few years ago). Perhaps just as an important, the folio allow the moleskine to be opened flat to be written in.
However, I have to heavily modify or "hack" the current black waterproof nylon smartphone folio. I removed the phone holster as its not practical. Sure the holster holds your phone, but I don't want to leave my phone with my notebook as a male purse. Furthermore, both the holster and the pen holders once used are almost impossible to zip up without distorting the folio.
Results: I cut out the smartphone holster with scissors, x acto knife and seam ripper. I then resewed the loose fabric holding the compartment zipper. I then cut in half a wilson jones elastic book binder and sewed it down on the open area. Now I can hold a small spiral notebook, or index cards securely. I am anal,so I used a 4x6 clipboard to hold my index cards for quick reference. I personalized my black folio with adhesive sticky velcro flag holder. Now I can see my home state flag neatly held.
Recommendation: Rickshaw sews the open vinyl compartment for loose items on the front side of the folio as well. Widen the folio's notebook out by 0.5 inch, this allow for more comfortable storing of phone, pens, or my small 3 ring clip clipboard. Now I realize this widening may distort the "form factor" of a slim moleskine and its cover.

What a perfect way for a dude to carry around his fancy pens, slick phone, and journal all in a bombproof, attractive case! My custom colors look exactly as they did on the online color selector, and the sailcloth is beautiful to behold. Thank you RB.
