PRODUCT SUGGESTIONS
We welcome suggestions for product improvements – no matter how small. Really! The collective experience of people using our products everyday provides all kinds of insights for making our products better, and adapting to ever-changing technologies and lifestyles. Product design involves many cost-benefit trade-offs, and sometimes we omit features that appeal to only a few people. On the other hand, we often design specialized accessories for niche opportunities – so you never know. If you have an idea, please send us an email, and we'll respond promptly.
NEW PRODUCT IDEAS
We sometimes receive inquiries from product designers and inventors who want us to consider their ideas for sale or royalties. We respect entrepreneurial initiative and creative spirit, and sometimes a truly great idea comes along that’s appropriate for our product line and our market. If you have an idea you want us to consider, please be advised that we do not sign confidentiality agreements before reviewing such proposals. That’s because we’ve been in this business for a long time, and have seen many ideas come and go. Very often seemingly unique ideas have been tried before, unbeknownst to people new to this industry. We also have an active product development effort of our own, and sometimes that great idea is something we’re already working on. That being said, rest assured, we do not steal ideas. If you want us to consider your idea, and are willing to describe it in sufficient detail that we may evaluate it, or already have a patent pending, please contact us via email in advance.

If you were one of the lucky Rickshaw customers to receive your goods in our Round Trip Shipper, here's what you need to do to complete the circle:
ROUND TRIP SHIPPER
In your Round Trip Shipper you should have received a laminated instruction card and a return postage label.
Put the laminated instruction card back in the empty package, and place the label over the FedEx label that is on the outside of the package. Zip the package closed and drop the whole thing back in your nearest mail box to send back to Rickshaw's headquarters.
The instruction card is also a tracker to see how many times each package comes back and forth from the customer to Rickshaw....each time saving us one more cardboard box! We hope that you will return it back to us to be used for the next customer.
If you have any questions, feel free to contact us at customerservice@rickshawbags.com

Consent
By using our website, you are agreeing to let us collect and use your information as we describe in this Privacy Policy and Security Policy. If we change our policies, we will post any changes on the website, so that you are always informed about what information we collect, how we use it and under what circumstances we disclose it.
SECURITY POLICY
At Rickshaw Bagworks, we know that keeping your credit card information secure is vital. We use Secure Socket Layer (SSL) 128bit encryption technology to protect your online information.
How do we make sure information is secure?
We use the latest encryption technology (Secure Sockets Layer, or SSL) to secure your personal information. The information you provide when you place an order is encrypted (or coded) using a secure server for maximum security. This coding makes it extremely difficult for anyone to reach your information as it moves through our ordering system.
Certain browsers will not allow communication through secure servers. If this is the case, you won't be able to place an order online.
Federal law states that your credit card company can't hold you liable for more than $50 of fraudulent charges. If your credit card number is ever used without your permission as a direct result of ordering on our website, we will reimburse you for the entire liability not covered by your credit card company, up to $50. Remember: never give your credit card or personal information in an email – email messages are not secure.
To check the security of your computer, look at the lower left-hand corner of your browser window if you are using Netscape, or the lower right-hand corner of your browser window if you are using Internet Explorer. If you see an unbroken key or a closed lock, then the encryption technology is active and the server is secure. You can also check by looking at the URL line of your browser; when you access a secure server, the initial characters of the site address will be "https."
What if you link to another site?
Our website may provide links to other websites that are not under our control. Neither we nor the third party service providers who manage our website are responsible for these linked websites, their content or for the actions of the providers of such sites. We recommend that you review the privacy and security policies and terms of use for any websites you use.
Do I have to turn the security feature on when I want to shop?
The security features are automatic, and always on. You don't have to do anything but shop. Clicking "Shopping Cart" or “Check Out” on any page is all it takes to get started in our secure checkout process.
How do I know if I'm connected when I start ordering?
Once you've clicked the "Continue Checkout" button, your browser looks for a digital certificate to confirm that it's communicating with rickshawbags.com. Once a positive ID is made, your order will continue securely.
Are all the pages on rickshawbags.com secure?
Most of the pages on our website provide information about Rickshaw Bagworks and our products. We make this information available freely and there's no reason for these pages to be "secure." The pages that we make secure are the ones on which you actually make the purchase, such as when managing your account, checking your order status, or within the "Checkout" area. For example, the entire checkout process, from initial entry to final confirmation, is completely secure.
Is my information secure when it's transmitted across the Internet?
All of your information is encrypted before it's transmitted across the Internet, then decoded only after it arrives at our secure servers.

We realize most people won’t make it past this sentence anyway, and we’re not the least bit offended. If you want to read on, have at it…

WHOLESALE & RETAIL SALES OPPORTUNITIES
Rickshaw is looking for independent specialty retailers to represent our brand. If you're interested in becoming one of our select retailers, please contact us directly at sales@rickshawbags.com
We get variations of this question a lot. It’s a reasonable question, as there are indeed quite a few “messenger bag companies” to choose from, and just about every bag company in the world has their own interpretation of a “messenger bag” – with an infinite variety of features, fabrics and styles.
To focus only on the product misses the bigger context of why people choose one brand over another. Companies have personalities, just like individual people. “Personality” permeates everything we make and everything we do. The personality of our company begins with the collection of people that comprise Rickshaw Bagworks. We’re a small group of hard-working, fun-loving bag geeks. We’re passionate about designing bags, sewing bags, selling bags, and engaging with our customers who use our bags. We like to think the personality of our company – the collective personality of our people – infuses our product with a certain intangible, but essential “life force” – a “soul”, if you will. Marketing pros call it something like “brand essence”. Whatever it is, we’ve all experienced something beyond the tangible when we interact with our favorite products. We strive to create that special “something” in Rickshaw products.
Okay, let’s move beyond the metaphysical. Fact is, not only do we love what we do, but we’ve got some serious experience in the bag business. Collectively, we’ve been designing and manufacturing messenger bags for many, many years. We take pride in “engineering” our bags – with as much concern for function and structural integrity as for style.
Rickshaw bags are designed to satisfy both the left and right sides of our brain. There are numerous subtle details, and a few clever innovations, that distinguish the design, material selection and construction of Rickshaw bags from others. Some of these will be obvious when you see, touch and explore your first Rickshaw bag. Others will reveal themselves as your use your bag everyday, day after day, for years to come.
Beyond bags and the business of bags, we are also passionate about making a difference in the world. We’re a small, independent company, with a strong sense of moral obligation to contribute to the greater good. Our mantra is "Change For Good". We do this ourselves by contributing our time, expertise, products and money to causes that resonate with us on a personal level. Over the years, we’ve found that the “bag business” can be a rich platform for community service. We’ve already been involved in a number of significant charitable projects, including making book bags for low-income children, support for bicycle advocacy in San Francisco and fundraising for infant health education for new parents. These projects remind us constantly of things that are far more important in life than simply making and selling bags.
So, what’s different about Rickshaw is our unique blend of people, passion, personality, product details and principles – it’s as simple, and as complex, as that.
There are some great brands and some great bags out there. You may already own some of them. We hope your next bag will be a Rickshaw bag.
First of all, thanks for being a Rickshaw customer! We respect your privacy and maintain a secure database. We keep your name and contact info on file if you have ordered with us or have joined our mailing list, but we do not share our lists or your info with any third party marketers – no exceptions.
Furthermore, we permanently delete your credit card info after your order is processed and payment received. Rickshaw will only use your contact info to update you on your order status, or send you our newsletter. You may request removal from our mailing list at any time.
For details of our Privacy Policy, Security Policy and Terms and Conditions please refer to the "Privacy, Security and Terms of Use" link under the "Warranty and Legal Stuff" heading on the FAQ'S page of our web site.

HOW DO YOU WEAR IT?
Put the strap over your head so that it crosses your torso; adjust the quick-cam buckle so that it sits comfortably on your back. If there’s a cross strap, attach it to the side d-ring for stabilization. This helps a lot when riding a bike or running to catch a bus.
CUSTOM FABRICS
So you want to make your own one-of-a-kind Rickshaw bag? You can bring your own material to our factory and witness the process in person, or you can arrange to send your fabric to us. Generally, the fabric should be upholstery weight and durable, as opposed to lightweight apparel fabric.
You can customize the Commuter which includes the front panel and the binding or piping that runs along the front flap. The body of the bag cannot be customized; the body of the commuter is a chassis, and only comes in black.
You can also customize the Zero messenger bag which includes the inside of the bag, the outside of the bag and the binding or piping on the bag.
Everything is made to order, and the average wait time is 7-10 days based on the number of orders ahead of yours. Once the unit is actively in production the Commuter bag takes about 30 minutes to complete, while the Zero takes about an hour and a half. For the Commuter you will need a rectangle of fabric that is at least 15"x19". For a Small Zero: at least 15" x 46", a Medium Zero: 20" x 51", and a Large Zero: 23"x 60".
Please call ahead or send an email to customerservice@rickshawbags.com and we’ll provide you with design guidelines. There is no additional cost for customizing a bag with your own fabric but you will have to cover the cost of shipping the fabric to us.
MADE IN SAN FRANCISCO
Rickshaw operates its own manufacturing facility at our San Francisco headquarters. We make many of our products from scratch right here in SF. Come see for yourself! We welcome visitors to our factory. Individuals can drop by without an appointment. If you would like to bring a group, please make arrangements with us in advance.
ASSEMBLED IN SAN FRANCISCO
Some of our products are assembled-to-order in SF from a combination of sub-assemblies made by our manufacturing partner in China (see below) and fabric we cut here in SF.
MADE IN CHINA
Certain sub-assemblies, and some of our finished products are made by our manufacturing partner in China. We work directly with our Chinese partner – we do not work through an agent or third-party representative – and we visit the factory frequently and maintain nearly constant contact. We are well aware of the controversy relating to off-shoring in general, and manufacturing in China in particular. We like to think we have a realistic, practical and balanced approach to providing our customers with great products at reasonable prices – and doing so in a responsible and ethical manner.
Manufacturing in China is not just about “cheap labor” – though that was the primary motive in the early days of the off-shoring movement. Over the past ten years, the Shenzhen province in southern China has become the international hub for “soft goods” (including bags) and footwear manufacturing. What Silicon Valley is to high-tech, and Detroit is to automobiles, Shenzhen is to bags and shoes. As a result, that’s where the expertise, equipment, technology, manufacturing capacity and all the related suppliers are clustered. Furthermore, a natural cross-pollination of technology between the soft goods and footwear industries has benefited innovation in both categories.
Manufacturing complex cut-and-sew assemblies is done most efficiently and cost-effectively in Shenzhen. In fact, some of the highest quality cut-and-sew products in the world come from the best factories in Shenzhen, when combined with great product design and high quality materials. Luxury brands such as Coach, and even some of the classic French brands, manufacture their high-end products in these factories.
We have a “best of both worlds” approach: we make the complex, labor intensive subassemblies in China, and perform final assembly and customization in San Francisco. This strategy affords us certain operational advantages, and results in the best value for our customers.
We welcome your comments and questions about our manufacturing operations. The best way to reach us is to send an email to customerservice@rickshawbags.com, and we’ll respond promptly.

FABRICS
The waterproof X-Pac™ material is our toughest fabric, and the perfect bag for those of you in wet-weather climates. X-Pac™ is a special high-performance sailcloth for ocean-going racing boats manufactured by Dimension-Polyant in Connecticut. This high-tech laminate is lightweight, abrasion resistant and waterproof. A special internal layer of tensile strands gives the fabric a distinctive diamond pattern. Because this is a premium fabric and more expensive by the yard than other fabrics we use, we have to charge a higher price. Trust us, the fabric is so cool it's worth it.
The Zero cross-strap has a loop on one end, a hook on the other and a quick-release buckle in the center. You attach the loop end of the cross-strap on one end of the bag's shoulder strap and the J-clip hooks onto the black D-ring on the opposite side of the bag. Adjust accordingly so the bag fits snug against your back.

The Commuter cross-strap features two J-Clips on each end and a quick release buckle in the middle. Simply attach the J-clip of the cross strap to the metal D-ring on the bag. Slide the bag over your shoulder and pull the other end of the cross-strap across the body and attach to the opposite D-ring on the side of the bag. Now it should feel secure against your back.
Our Deluxe Comfort Strap Pad features grip padding to keep it in place on your shoulder. A quick-cam allows for easy adjusting when on the go. The strap attaches to the side d-rings on the bag.
Do you cringe every time you hear the Velcro rip when someone opens their messenger bag? Does the hook of the Velcro get caught on your cashmere sweater? The 'silencers' that we've strategically placed on the inside flap of our bags are designed to save you those pains. These two removable strips contain magnets and attach to the Velcro hook to keep your bag quiet. When you've stuffed your bag to the max and need the secure Velcro, simply remove them and stash away in a pocket. Each silencer says "SHHH" and "RRRRIP" to really get the point across.
Our rear zip pocket features designated pockets for highlighters, pens, a camera, cell phone or other digital gadgets. Two additional pockets hold both the regular Moleskine notebook and the small city notebook. It's also a great place to stash files and/or a newspaper when traveling.
